Let’s keep this one short.
The best camera is the one you have with you.
Smartphone cameras are getting really good these days. Even my old HTC One X that I started with back in 2004 could get decent photos for sharing on Instagram with those filters from the early days.
I’ve used a mix of different smartphone cameras as I’ve upgraded over the years and also my trusty Sony A6000 with various lenses.
But it’s not the camera – it’s what you can do with it. You can still tell a story with good composition and the right light and angles.
Sure, you may have some limits, but that shouldn’t stop you from getting started!
When should you upgrade?
Let’s face it, good cameras – whether they’re a standalone camera or in a modern smartphone – are expensive. Here are few things to think about before upgrading:
- How is it going to make my photography better?
- Is there more I can do with my current camera?
- What types of photos do I want to take that I can’t do now?
Before you go out and buy a new camera
You may be surprised with what you can do with your current camera. Here’s some inspiration for shots to try.
